The Golf de Sologne is the oldest course in the Centre region, and probably one of the most beautiful natural settings.

This large 18-hole course is set in ancient woodlands. It is not known as an easy course; the 6,400 metre-long, par 72 course provides a challenge for even the most seasoned of golfers. The course was redesigned by Olivier Dongradi.

Open weekdays 08:30-18:00; weekends and public holidays 08:30-19:00.

This relatively new course, set in beautiful Saumur, is a pleasant 9-hole round if you're searching for a change from historical monuments and châteaux.

3. Domaine de Vaugouard Golf Course, Fortenay-sur-Loing

This 18-hole course is set in the grounds of an 18th-century château which is now a leisure complex with outdoor pool and tennis courts as well as a charming hotel.

Considered one of the top courses in France, the hilly 72-par 18-hole course was designed by Adam and Fromanger in 1987 and has some interesting hurdles and water hazards - the first 9 holes go through woods with oak, birch and cypress trees, offering a different setting each season, and the last 9 holes are more technical, with a more landscaped course with lovely ponds to pass across offering beautiful perspectives.

The advantages of the course is that it is visible all year, is wooded and landscaped, has covered practice areas, pitch & putt, a putting green, a pro-shop and a restaurant.

Nantes Erdre Golf Club

4. Erdre Golf Course, Nantes

This golf course is part of the Blue Green group of golf courses.

Just 15 minutes from the centre of Nantes, its 18-hole par 71 course is situated in a lovely 50 hectare hilly wooded site.

This course will appeal to players of all levels, beginners, advanced and professionals alike, with its intriguing design. The club has a practice zone, putting greens, pitching greens and training bunkers. Also a restaurant, pro-shop and conference rooms.

Sully Golf Course, Sully-sur-Loire course

5. Sully Golf Course, Sully-sur-Loire

Located in the heart of the Sologne, this 27-hole club offers three courses; Sarcelles, Faisans and Chevreuils. You can do 9 holes, combine two courses to do a round of 18, or if you're feeling energetic, you can do all 27!

Open every day of the year, from 09:00-18:00 from April-October and at weekends and public holidays, and from 09:30 in November-February.

There is a restaurant (closed Tuesdays).

Chateau de Cheverny Golf Course, Cheverny course

6. Chateau de Cheverny Golf Course, Cheverny

The golf course of the Château Cheverny has been constructed in the 142 hectares of the historic hunting grounds of the château.

The 18-hole course meanders through forest, plains and lakes and combines a countryside walk with a full golfing experience. There is a 20-lane driving range and a 3-hole beginners course. It has a club house which has been renovated to maintain as much of the architectural authenticity of a traditional hunting lodge of Sologne.

7. Nantes Carquefou Golf Course, Nantes

Built in the grounds of the Château de l'Epinay, this 18-hole golf course extends over 67 hectares. The 5,790-metre course has slightly wavy greens and small rivers, ponds and streams. A reasonably easy course with the Martin Hawtree signature.

Open daily 08:30-18:30.

There is also a compact 3-hole course, a covered driving range and training areas. Their restaurant is open daily also.

This hilly 18-holes is surrounded by ancient trees, has slightly wavy greens, an average surface of 450 m². The presence of water, through small rivers, ponds and streams, give the whole course a patina that is the envy of many new golf courses.

The course is not very difficult to play and is suitable for all levels of golf.

The quality of construction combined with excellent maintenance make it one of the best golf courses in the region.

Blue Green Avrillé Golf Course, Avrille green

8. Blue Green Avrillé Golf Course, Avrille

In the grounds of the 17th century Château Perrièrre, the golf club is within ancient trees, water features and different plant varieties that create this undulating course offering a diverse round.

The 18-hole course has well-drawn dog-legs and protected greens. A par 71 course, it starts with four difficult long holes with some challenging obstacles.

The club offers practice zones, putting greens, pitching greens, training bunkers, Pitch&Putt course and a compact course.

Sancerre Golf Club, Sancerre green

9. Sancerre Golf Club, Sancerre

Located on the banks of the river Loire with Sancerre hill in the background, this course in the midst of century-old trees, ornamented by natural water hazards, is considered one of the most attractive golf courses in the centre of France. An 18-hole course with bunkers and water hazards which offer some interesting problems. There is also a pro-shop, restaurant, 6-hole practice course, driving range and putting green.

Open every day from 08:30-18:30, the restaurant is open the same times daily except Tuesdays.
