The Filliatreau family have been making Saumur-Champigny wines in their vineyards at this troglodyte manor for only 20 years. This family business produces some excellent vintages and is worth a visit to see both the caves and go on their wine-tasting tour.
In 1967, Maurice Filliatreau let his son, Paul, have 8 hectares of his vineyard. At that time, rosé wines were predominant. In those days, the prestige surrounding the delicacy and spirit of Saumur Champigny " had not yet been fully acknowledged. As a lover of these light red wines with berry flavours, Paul Filliatreau devoted all his time to producing them.
To make these flavours appreciated by a large public, he travelled all over France. Today, wine lovers who are sensitive to this indefinable charm characterizing the "Saumur Champigny wines" of the Filliatreau Estate are countless. In 1990, Fredrik joined his father at the head of the wine-producing business. By dint of method and perseverance, Paul and Fredrik Filliatreau are now running a vineyard of more than 40 hectares.
