Chateau de Valmer
Explore the gardens and taste Vouvray wine at this château
Château de Valmer, with its striking park and gardens, nestles on the edge of a hillside overlooking the Brenne Valley, a tributary of the Loire river.
Though little remains of the original château - it was destroyed by a fire in 1948 - it is worth a visit to explore the wonderful gardens, Petit Valmer, bridges and the chapel. Laid out along two major axes, the gardens follow the natural gradients of the hillside. Their designer has cleverly taken advantage of the slope of a spur between the two valleys.
The château also produces Vouvray AOC wines from the Chenin Blanc grape which you can taste.
